Ryan Frazier Calls on Congressman Perlmutter to Repudiate Offensive Statements
Aurora, CO – December 9th - Today Republican 7th Congressional District candidate Ryan Frazier called on Congressman Ed Perlmutter to repudiate the offensive and insensitive statements made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who compared Republican opposition to government-run healthcare with the struggle against slavery.
“On the floor of the United States Senate, Senator Harry Reid made light of centuries of suffering in an attempt to score cheap political points,” said Councilman Frazier.
“As a Navy veteran, as an American, as a Republican and as a black man, Harry Reid’s words offend and astonished me. I ask Congressman Perlmutter to tell us if he stands by the reckless statements of the Senate Majority Leader.
“Congressman Perlmutter owes it to the citizens of the 7th Congressional District to repudiate the incredibly hurtful statements made by Democrat Harry Reid and his intentional distortion of history.
“Let me be clear: When Harry Reid compares Republicans to slaveholders, he insults me and every other African American who has spent so many years attempting to put the horrors of slavery behind us.
“The Republican Party was founded to fight the extension of slavery and to promote the extinction of slavery in America. Abraham Lincoln was our party’s first and perhaps finest president. I believe he would be as offended as we are at Senator Reid’s words.
“It is astonishing to me, just a year after this country elected its first African American president, a member of his own party would choose to use such language.
“Ironically, it is Senator Reid and the Democrats in Congress who pursue policies that will force Americans into debt they have neither asked for nor deserve. By spending trillions of dollars we don’t have and mortgaging the futures of our children and grandchildren, we risk that they may never truly get to experience all that our country has to offer.
“The people of the 7th Congressional District have a right to know whether Ed Perlmutter stands with the sort of ugliness Harry Reid espoused on the floor of the Senate.
“Today I call on Congressman Perlmutter’s to repudiate Senator Reid’s offensive comments. I ask residents of the 7th Congressional District to join me by doing the same.”
